According to the American Kennel Club 2011 Dog Registration Statistics, the Great Dane is ranked number 19 among breed popularity. This is a drop since 2010 where the Great Dane came in at number 17. Ten years ago in 2001, the Great Dane ranked number 28 in the list of breeds.

Description: The 2nd annual “a BARK in the PARK” Dog Show will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012 in one of Galveston Island’s most popular historic districts – the tree – shaded Kempner Park, 27th and Avenue O. A phenomenal success last year, this fun, family – and canine – friendly event is set for 10am – 4pm. All dogs and all breeds (and their families!) are welcome. Vendors will showcase everything from pet supplies to hand-made canine gift items. In addition, educational seminars about spay-neuter, micro-chips, and obedience training, etc. will be held. Onsite will be artists, photographers, face painters, a Farmer’s Market, terrific booths with family-friendly foods, lemonade, and so much more.
Entry fee is $10 per dog. All proceeds benefit the Galveston Island Humane Society.

Description: Pearland Parks & Recreation is gearing up for the 18th Annual Paws in the Park, benefiting the Pearland Animal Adoption center. We will kick things off on Saturday morning with the HEB Plus! Pet and Owner Fun Run followed by the national Dock Diving competition. Dock Diving for dogs is fast becoming one of America’s most popular outdoor events! Proud pet owners travel to these events from all over the country to compete. It’s an incredible new sport that everyone loves!

Description: San Jacinto Mall will host a pet festival entitled Celebration for AniMALL lovers on Saturday, March 24th from 10 am to 5 pm. The event is sponsored by Green Mountain Energy and will feature several non-profit animal rescue and welfare groups to include the City of Baytown’s Animal Services department, Houston SPCA, All Border Collie Rescue, Adopt A Cat, Gulf Coast Cocker Spaniel Rescue, Great Dane Rescue of Southeast Texas, Dachshund Rescue of Houston and Husky Haven. Event vendors include Busy Body Pets, Woof Pet Bakery & Boutique, The Poochie Chick and Rascal Rocks selling everything from home-made doggie bones to pet clothing. Spay Houston will offer low cost vaccinations and $15 microchipping. Pet owners are invited to have their pet photographed with the Easter Bunny between 10 am and 11:30 am for a nominal fee.
