10th Annual AISD Education Foundation Turtle Race
Location: Tom Blakeney Hike & Bike Trail Bridge, Alvin TX 77511
Date: February 12, 2011
Time: 11 am – 2 pm
Description: GDRST will have a booth at the Turtle Race in Alvin. Dogs are welcome to join but this isn’t necessarily a dog event. There will be all kinds of booths with games, craft, food, lots of stuff for the human kiddos to do, and more. We had so much fun last year, we had to do it again.
At approximately noon, the “adopted” turtles will be taken to Mustang Bayou and gently dropped in from the walkway bridge along the Tom Blakeney Hike …and Bike Trail.
The turtles will then “race” down the bayou to the prearranged finish line near the Adoue Street bridge, where they will be “fished” out and the winners determined. The adopter of the first turtle to cross the finish line wins the first place prize of a trip valued at $1,500, sponsored by David, and Tracy Vela; the second place turtle adopter wins a trip valued at $1,000, sponsored by TDEC, Inc. and Elizabeth Nelson, CPA; and the third place prize is a trip valued at $500, sponsored by Ron Carter Automotive Dealerships.
Booths featuring water, sandwiches, T-shirts, cookbooks, arts and crafts, sports drinks, smoothies, nachos, hot dogs, cotton candy, and sausage-on-a-stick will be available.
A silent auction will also be held with prize baskets full of goodies.
The Alvin I.S.D. Education Foundation is a 501c(3) (charitable) organization established to create support for academic programs of the district. Money raised will be used to fund student achievement and recognize and encourage staff excellence through innovative projects and ideas.
