Parvo

Canine Parvovirus (CPV)

Canine Parvovirus, or Parvo, is the most common infectious disorder of dogs in the United States.  It is highly contagious and characterized by bloody diarrhea.

Parvo is spread through feces containing the virus.  The incubation period is 7 – 14 days, meaning that a dog may be infected before any signs are exhibited.  Anything that has come in contact with contaminated feces is can pass on the virus (hands, clothing, kennels, toys, etc…)  Majority of the cases seen are of puppies 6 months & younger as it is harder for their bodies to fight the infection while trying to over come the effects of the virus.  It is so important to make sure that puppies/dogs are vaccinated against Parvo.
