Dilated Cardiomyopathy A.K.A “DCM”
Dilated Cardiomyopathy or DCM is one of the most common heart conditions in dogs. In some cases, it is an inherited disease and in others, due to a nutritional deficiency. In dogs with DCM, the muscle of the lower left ventricle isn’t able to contract normally and pump the blood back out to the body. This causes the blood to begin to “back up” on the left side of the heart which, in turn, leads to an enlarged heart.
Even though DCM isn’t limited to certain breeds, it is more commonly associated with large or giant breeds such as the Great Dane. For more detailed information, please visit the link below:
