Canine Distemper

Distemper is a virus illness that is very contagious and has no known cure.  It is related to the measles virus in humans.  It is often seen in young puppies or older, unvaccinated dogs.  Although there is no cure, there are prevention vaccines available.

Symptoms:

  • Gooey eye & nose discharge
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Coughing
  • Excessive salivation
  • Dehydration
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Callusing of the nose and foot pads
