Southeast Texas has been under an “Excessive Heat Watch” for multiple days and there doesn’t seem to be a sign of relief anytime soon. Heatstroke is a real possibility for our pets. With this in mind, we wanted to share some signs to be looking for:
- Excessive Panting
- Uncomfortable
- Restless
- Pale or Dry Gums
- Lethargy
If you think your dog is suffering from heatstroke, get them indoors and plenty of water as quickly as possible. Call your vet immediately for directions.
A few quidelines to follow during high temperatures are:
- Avoid outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
- Take frequent breaks from outdoor activity.
- Make sure that there is plenty of fresh water available.
- NEVER leave your pet in the car.
